SERGIO VALENCIA

Sergio Valencia:

Began his career playing soccer at the age of nine, with the Asociacion Deportiva El Transito (ADET) Soccer Academy. At the age of thirteen, the U-15 El Salvador National Team selected Valencia to play for the team. At the age of 18, he became a professional soccer player with ADET a Third (3rd) Division Team; additionally, he was selected to play with the U-19 El Salvador National Team. At the age of 19, ADET promoted Valencia to play in the Second (2nd) Division. At the age of 21, ADET promoted Valencia to the First (1st) Division Professional League of El Salvador. Valencia was selected to play with the El Salvador National Soccer Team U-21 to qualify for the Olympic Games at Barcelona ‘92. At the same time, he participated in the First UNCAF Tournament in San Jose Costa Rica to play the First USA/Gold Cup. In 1997, he was a member of the El Salvador National Soccer Team who competed in the 1998 World Cup in France. Valencia’s Professional Soccer career lasted for 11 Years; he played for ADET, CD Tiburones and CD Aguila (the most prestigious team in E.S.), which are all professional soccer teams in the First Division from El Salvador.

Valencia graduated from high school in Human Resources in 1989 from Alejandro Dumas H.S. in El Salvador. Valencia studied Journalism in Technology University (UTEC) in El Salvador. He studied for four semesters then went on to play professional soccer. During his first semester, Sergio played for UTEC. During that semester, UTEC won the 1990 University League Title.

Valencia came to the United States in 1999 and formed the New York Soccer Latin Academy (NYSLA) in 2002 with Francisco Guerrero. When NYSLA started, they only had 12 youth enrolled. Now, the academy currently has 280 participants. In 2004, Valencia received his National Coach License. He soon went to work for the Economic Opportunity Commission of Nassau County (EOC) in 2005 as a part time employee as a soccer coach. In the 2007, he became the Program Coordinator of the Hempstead EOC Soccer Club along with his coaching responsibilities. In the 2009, the Hempstead EOC Soccer Club/Hempstead Community Action Program (H-CAP) promoted him to Associate Director of the program.

For the past 5 years (2007-2012), Valencia has been involved with the FC New York (USL-Pro) and NYSLA, Scout for the NY State ODP, and Auburndale/Bayside Soccer Club.  The International Development Stars contracted him as a Soccer Trainer. Between 2012-2014 Valencia Moved to California State, and he worked with Atlante Soccer Academy, Cachorros Soccer Academy, and LA Galaxy Academy/Clinic and Camp.

Valencia returned to New York to work with Auburndale Soccer Club. On October 2014, EOC contracted him again as a Club Director of the Hempstead EOC Soccer Club, Also at the same time he is contracted to work with the Long Island Rough Riders in the NYC FC Academy Development league as a Soccer Coach.
